The wineries are popular and this can be a full day out visiting the many well known wineries. Our visitors often stop at a winery for lunch so we are able to advise the best route to take if you are driving your own vehicle.
There is a circular route (which Waterfront Bed and Breakfast is on) that takes you out through Picton and Rapaura to the wine area along to Havelock and the scenic Queen Charlotte Drive back to Waterfront Bed and Breakfast.
The Omaka Air museum is a must visit and guests have commented on its static displays and its worthwhile visit.
Sea kayaking is very popular in Marlborough. A ten minute drive to Linkwater or 15 minutes to Picton, will take you to a kayak company where you can hire a kayak for a half day or go on a guided tour. Our area of the Marlborough Sound is particularly beautiful as the bush comes right to the waters edge and there are many lovely Bays to explore. Many of the kayaking tours actually leave from Ngakuta Bay itself and kayaks are often seen paddling across the Bay.
Nelson City is just a 1 ½ hour drive away along the scenic route and it is a pleasant day out using Waterfront Bed and Breakfast as a base to come back to in the evening. Waterfront Bed and Breakfast is the ideal base to use for all Marlborough activities including wineries, kayaking, scenic driving, boat tours and all Picton based activities.
The Marlborough Mail boat departs Picton and Havelock daily and is a pleasant day on the water. These boats visit all the homes not accessible by road and who rely on the Mail boat for the delivery of essential goods. In addition there are Eco tours to watch the dolphins, penguins, bird life and other animal life. There are also Historical tours outlining the Maori culture and of Captain James Cook and his discoveries. All these tours involve getting out on the waters of the Queen Charlotte Sounds and experiencing the beauty of the area.
